AUSTRALIA movie review

Australia is a story about the land down under when the world was at war and the Japanese were blindly attacking Pearl Harbor and Darwin, Australia.

Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman prominently play the movie leads. An aristocratic lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman) comes to Australia to catch her husband cheating but finds him dead and discovers a deep-rooted conspiracy to take over her land called the Faraway Downs. The villianous landowner neighbor wants to maintain a cattle supply monopoly to the army with her land and cattle.

A woman that comes to sell her property and take her husband back to England decides to stay and fight the corruption with the help of Drover (Jackman), a cowboy of sorts, who though initially relectant, later agrees to fight by her side!

Thenceforth starts a love story that goes through ups and downs and tests their bond in failure and success!

My take on this movie: Worth a watch on DVD. Nicole Kidman is a sight to behold for the guys and I guess the women would want to see Hugh Jackman, the People magazine’s 2008 sexiest man alive! But, the movie is slow and tedious in many parts and lacks the “epic” feel.

My rating:

Rating: ★★★☆☆

(Rated: PG-13        Running time:   2 hours, 45 mins)

Genre:   Historical, Romance
