Now, this is an unexpectedly funny movie….not in a LMAO kinda way but pretty funny. Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) is a dentist whose inter-personal skills are much less than desired as is his habit of not being a very friendly person. In fact, he goes out of the way to avoid helping people to the extent that everyone around him knows him as an annoying and nasty little man. Then one day he dies for seven minutes and starts seeing ghosts. All these ghosts want him to help them and as they all gang up on him, Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) steps in and makes a deal with him to help him get rid of the man in his wife’s life in return for making all the ghosts disappear. What follows is hilarious as well as manages to strum your heart strings ending in a tranformation that even Bertram is suprised by. Ricky has a funny sense of humor and a way about him that you will find funny. Greg Kinnear is fairly decent as he has always been….average. And, then there’s Te’a Leoni, beautiful as ever, playing the role of Frank’s wife. She does a pretty good job acting.
Directed by David Koepp, who has the unique experience of being a screenwriter and director for blockbuster hits like Jurrasic Park, Panic Room, Stir of Echoes, Mission: Impossible, Spiderman etc.
