MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA movie review

Hollywood in general and Dreamworks in particular, know when they have a good thing going. And, they exploit it to the maximum. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is one of those movies–a much awaited sequel to the original movie, Madagascar. But, I’ve to say, I’m not disappointed. Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria are back with the old gang and some new ones! For those of you that have no idea who these animals are, please see Madagascar (the first part) on DVD or you’ll have missed one good, funny movie.

This time the gang crash lands in the middle of Africa while trying to get from Madagascar to New York City with the Penguins (the local mafia) flying the plane and accompanied by King Julien (who makes it his personal responsibility to get them back to New York and leaves his pet lizard in charge of his tribe in Madagascar!) and a stowaway.

Alex and the gang meet with their “wild” counterparts in the jungle and bond with them. Especially Alex who meets his parents (Dad: Zuba) and his evil uncle, who think he was dead. Each of them have their own goals to achieve while they embark on a journey of self discovery. Alex has to prove his worth to his dad while Gloria finds true love but not before she meets the macho Moto Moto, an alpha male Hippo who goes about wooing her in his own not-so-unique ways. And, Marty, having met all the zebras in the jungle, finds out that he is not so unique after all. Laughs are plenty…some old gags, some new…King Julien excels, the Penguins are hilarious and all in all, the movie is a laugh riot!! Go, see it and expect to come out smiling…yet another moneymaker for DreamWorks Animation and Paramount; Directors Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath.
