SONNY BANKS Reviews

DARK KNIGHT movie review

“You Either Die a Hero, or Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become the Villain,” says Harvey Dent, DA, Gotham City.

If you want to see just ONE MOVIE this year….pick up a DVD of Dark Knight (Releasing December 9, 2008) and watch it on your BIG FLATSCREEN TV with stereo surround sound home theatre system.

Dark Knight is possibly the best superhero comic book movie since the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeves in 1978…at least according to me. And the one thing that really makes this movie stand out is not Chistian Bale, who has acted brilliantly regardless, but the maniacal depiction of the Joker by the late Heath Ledger. I’ve to say, Heath Ledger went out with a BIG bang. People say this was his best role ever and he was destined for bigger things had he not died so suddenly but I guess we shall never know!

Batman is at his most popular state at the beginning with a whole lot of copycat Batmen trying to “help” out, to the real one’s utter dismay. These are minor annoyances as compared to what is yet to come. The city is being shaken up by the local DA, Harvey Dent (bold quote above), who goes in and arrests hundreds of gangsters in the city. This starts a massive panic situation amongst the city’s notorious gangsters who then turn to the one man that can do something about this: The Joker. Ledger with the most amazing expressions, mannerisms and body language creates a scary and utterly evil monster in the Joker that has only one person laughing: himself!! “Why so serious?” he asks and proceeds to carve up his victims’ faces to make ‘em look like himself. Some of his utterances are going to be in the Hollywood history books like “Ehh…what’s up Doc”, “Let’s put a smile on that face”, and “You know, madness is like gravity…sometimes all you need is a little push.”

The Joker than proceeds to terrorize the city and create havoc making only one demand…that Batman surrenders and reveals his true identity. What follows is massive mayhem and confusion that blasts itself to an explosive end that you wouldn’t want to miss.

I’d like to know how they are going to start the next Batman movie and can ANY Joker live upto Heath Ledger’s depiction of him!!

GO SEE IT on December 9, 2008…..book it early….I’m sure your local video library is going to run out of copies!!
